Books, Videos, etc

Books, Videos, etc.

Buildings are open! UNM students, faculty and staff are able to access our print collections.

We are providing access to materials in our Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections by appointment.

Of course, we also have ebooks, databases, and streaming media available remotely.

Instructors wanting to show library owned DVDs in online classes may use Lumiere.

High-Risk Individuals

We offer many services online, including online resources, online help and consultations. For anyone who needs to come to the library in person, the hourly headcount averages below can give you a sense of quieter times.

To reduce the amount of time you need to spend in the library, you can request items in our catalog. Look for the Request It link after you click on a title in the results list. We'll email you when they are ready to pick up.

For UNM students, staff, and faculty who are high risk, we can offer a low-contact Carryout service. Please contact us through Ask a Librarian if you are interested in this service and we will follow up with you.

You can also set someone as your proxy who can borrow materials on your library account.

How Busy is the Library?

Our library spaces are open to the campus community, following reduced capacity guidance from the State of New Mexico and UNM’s Bringing Back the Pack. We take hourly headcounts in each library to ensure we are remaining within allowable capacity for our spaces. Use of library spaces is considerably lighter than during a typical academic year. The following hourly averages for fall 2020 (through mid-October) may give you a better sense of what to expect.

Centennial Science & Engineering Library
M-F, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m: hourly headcount average for mid-September through mid-October < 4

Fine Arts & Design Library
M-F 10 a.m. - 4 p.m: hourly headcount average for mid-September through mid-October < 5

Zimmerman Library
M-TH 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. | F 9 a.m. - 6  p.m. | Sun 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Quietest times at Zimmerman are between 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. on weekdays (headcount average for mid-September through mid-October during these times <10) and between 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. on Sunday (hourly headcount average during this time <10)

Returning Items

You can return all library books, including InterLibrary Loan materials, via the book returns located at the following central campus locations:

  • Parish Memorial Library book return, accessible for drive up returns on Las Lomas (next to the Anderson School of Management)
  • Zimmerman Library north and south entrance book entrances.
  • Centennial Science & Engineering Library book return.

Please allow three business days for returned items to be cleared from your account.

Access to collections is not currently available for non-UNM individuals. We hope to offer this again at a future date, but must prioritize campus access to library materials at this time.
