Accessibility Services
University Libraries are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience to all library users. The Libraries offer a variety of services in support of research and academic pursuits for all students, faculty, and staff.
For assistance, or if you have suggestions or comments, please contact us at libraryaccess@unm.edu.
How to Access the Library Collection
Holds
UNM faculty, staff, and students may place a hold on any UNM Libraries item and our staff will retrieve and hold those items for pick up at the library’s Service Desk. Once you have found a book or other item in the University Libraries catalog, click the Request It button or link to request that the item be held for you. You will receive an email when items are ready for pick up.
Proxy Borrowers
UNM faculty, staff, and students may authorize one proxy borrower on their University Libraries account who is able to pick up, check out, and renew UNM library material on your behalf. For more information, see our Borrowing Information page.
Curbside Pick-up
University Libraries has a short-term parking spot north of Zimmerman Library to support carryout services by appointment. Email libraryaccess@unm.edu about the items you need. We will work with you to set an appointment time and will carry the requested items out to you in the parking spot while you wait.
Alternatives to Print Access
If you are a UNM faculty, student, staff or affiliate who is blind or has a print disability, you can request access to digital copies of any book through the HathiTrust Accessible Text Request Service, regardless of its copyright status.
A print disability is any type of disability that prevents you from being able to read a print book, which includes but is not limited to blind/low vision, cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities, or physical disabilities.
For books not in Hathi, we will attempt to provide an accessible digital copy from another source.
Students needing access to digitized versions of their course materials or textbooks are able to get assistance from UNM's Accessibility Resource Center.
Additional Accessibility Options
The UNM Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) offers a variety of additional resources and options for UNM students. UNM employees can request an accommodation related to a disability with OCEEO.
